Here is the FIRST of many DIAKONOS blog posts to come! I hope we can use this site to share our prayers, thoughts, and suggestions about this ministry in the effort of furthering the kingdom of our Lord.

Here's the first reflection!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the biggest lessons I learned from this past Monday concerned the heart of a servant. At the end of the night, I had had a great time befriending the new members and meeting the people in the underground. However, I didn't have that "A-Ha!" moment when I was able to speak the Gospel into someone's life. Most of my conversations were fairly shallow - the typical How are you? Where are you from? etc. Therefore, I was a little disappointed because I thought I could have done more.
That's where the problem lies. Too many times, I go into any type of ministry and place myself at the center of it. It's all about how eloquently I can share the Gospel. It's all about how well I prepared the Bible study. And the list continues. However, I realized that serving God is not about seeing the fruit of my labor, but rather about loving God and wanting to express this love through obedience. I firmly believe that God will use this group to touch lives and bless others; however, we are not in the position to know who these people will be and when this will occur. All we can do is faithfully serve Him by loving the people we meet because that is what our loving Father desires.
Galatians 5:14
The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."
